In this lesson students follow on from the last lesson on daily routines. They read about a penguin’s and a school boy’s daily routine. They also write about their own daily routine using linking phrases.

For this level 4 course, use either the PDF mini-textbooks – print out copies for each student, or if you have a projector or large screen you can use PowerPoint lessons. In both cases, follow the lesson through as it appears in the materials. The lesson is self-explanatory, and there are additional teaching notes below.

1. Review daily routines vocabulary

Students review the previous lesson.

Review a: Chorus the daily routines vocabulary paying special attention to the underlined stress. Students then practice saying sentences about their daily routines with a partner.

2. Daily routines – read about a penguin

1a: Students read a text about a penguin’s daily routine. Have them work in pairs to put the sentences in the correct order. Then have them check their answers on the back page. Finish by having the pairs underline the verbs and then read the text to each other.

3. Daily routines – read about a school boy

2a: Your students are going to read a text about a school boy’s daily routine. Have students work in pairs to read the text to each other. Then have them note down all the verbs.

2b: Students check their answers. Then have everyone read the text with their partners.

4. Daily routines vocabulary, writing

2c: Chorus the daily routines phrases and check for understanding. Have students work in pairs to write the times they do each routine.

2d: Students use their notes from the previous page to write a text about their daily routine. Point out the linking phrases to help them create their texts. Students then display their texts on the board to be read by their classmates.
