Fun ESL syllable classroom game

Try this “Syllable clap quiz” to get students hearing and saying syllables clearly.

Have the class stand in a circle. The teacher says a word aloud and the group claps once for each syllable (e.g., but-ter-fly gets three claps: clap-clap-clap). Continue for a number of words so everyone gets the idea. Next, divide students into teams. Teams take turns sending one student to the front to clap the syllables for a word you say. The student earns a point for their team if correct.
