Fun ESL alphabet classroom activity
Try this “Alphabet wall chart challenge quiz” to get students thinking about letters and words.
Put students in pairs and give each pair an alphabet wall chart and a list of challenges, such as:
- Find a letter that begins a word for something you eat
- Find a letter that has two syllables in the picture word (e.g., “apple”)
- Find a letter that comes right before / after a specific letter
- Find a letter that starts your name
- Find a letter that starts an animal word
One student in the pair reads the challenges while the other touches the letters and says the answers (e.g. “C … for cake”). They swap over when finished.
