Fun ESL months classroom activity

Try this birthday and holiday chat to get students using months vocabulary in meaningful conversation.

Write all 12 months on the board and give each student a small set of prompt cards (e.g., birthday, Christmas, summer [hide_on_uk]vacation[/hide_on_uk][hide_on_us]holiday[/hide_on_us], school starts, [hide_on_uk]favorite[/hide_on_uk][hide_on_us]favourite[/hide_on_us] month, Easter, a local festival, etc.). In pairs, students take turns asking and answering questions such as “When is your birthday?”, “What month is Christmas in?”, or “Which is your [hide_on_uk]favorite[/hide_on_uk][hide_on_us]favourite[/hide_on_us] month?”. Encourage full sentences like “My birthday is in May” or “I like July because it is in summer.” After several rounds, have students share one interesting fact about a classmate’s month with the whole class.
