Fun ESL meals and food classroom activity
Try this interactive “Meal time” game to help students talk about different foods for meals.
Put students in groups of 3 or 4 and give each group a marker pen and a large sheet of paper to tape to the wall. Each group writes one meal at the top of the paper (“Breakfast”, “Lunch”, “Dinner”). Then set a timer for 1 minute – each group needs to write down on the large sheet as many foods and drinks as they can that are common for that meal (e.g. for breakfast: cereal, toast, fruit, tea, coffee, etc.). When the timer goes off, get each group to move to a new meal paper and add more words to that list, again for 1 minute. Finally, have the groups move the the third meal to add to that list. By the end you will have a long list of foods for each meal. Go though them as a class and have a class discussion: which foods are common for each meal, which ones your students like or dislike, which foods students ate today or yesterday, and so on.
