Fun ESL food classroom activity

Try this “Food categories race” to get students thinking and talking about different kinds of food.

Write some food categories on the board, for example: fruit, vegetables, meat, snacks, drinks, sweets, dairy, etc. (you can adjust for level). Divide the class into small teams. Call out a category and shout, “Go!” Teams have 30 seconds to quickly write down as many foods from that category as they can. When time is up, each team says their list aloud — one food per student: “Apple.”, “Banana.”, “Orange.” Award one point for each correct food. Then switch to a new category.
