Fun ESL months in Japan flashcard game

Try this “Match the Japanese event” game using your months flashcards.

Write on cards some well known events in Japan: holidays, festivals, traditions, schedules, etc. For example, “New Year (Oshōgatsu)”, “Setsubun”, “Hinamatsuri (Girls’ Day)”, “Golden Week”, “Tanabata”, “Obon”, “Sports Day”, “Christmas”, “Start of the school year”, “Birthday”, etc. Also print out the months cards and spread them out, face up, on the table. Ask a student to draw an event card and touch the month card that the event takes place and say a sentence, e.g. “Oshōgatsu is in January”, “The start of the school year is in April”, etc. Ask some follow up questions: “What do you eat at New Year?”, “What [hide_on_uk]color[/hide_on_uk][hide_on_us]colour[/hide_on_us] yukata do you wear at festivals?”, etc. Continue with all your students until the event cards run out.
