Fun ESL greetings classroom activity

Try this lively “Hello ball pass” game to help students say greetings and responses naturally.

Have students stand or sit in a circle. The teacher starts by gently tossing a ball to a student while saying a greeting, for example: “Hello, Mia!”. The student catches the ball, replies with a greeting, and throws it back to you or to another classmate: “Hello, teacher!”, “Hi, Tiago!”, etc. Encourage different greetings each round: “Good morning!” / “How are you?”. The receiving student responds appropriately: “I’m fine, thank you!”. Keep it playful but clear, and rotate so everyone gets a turn.
