Fun ESL camping classroom activity

Try this simple “Camping story builder” game to help students use camping vocabulary.

Sit the class in a circle (around an imaginary camp fire). The teacher starts a simple camping story with one sentence, such as: “We went camping and set up a big tent.” The next student continues the story by adding one more sentence using a camping word they know: “Then we cooked hot dogs by the fire.” Go around the circle with each student adding one line. Encourage simple sentence structures and camping vocabulary, for example: “We saw a deer.”, “It got cold at night.”, “We used a sleeping bag.” If a student needs help, classmates can suggest camping words for them to include. At the end, read the complete story together.
