The collectors

Level: Advanced (C1 – C2).

In this lesson students read and talk about collecting things, and when this might become a problem. They also give advice to someone on how to curb their obsessive [hide_on_uk]behavior[/hide_on_uk][hide_on_us]behaviour[/hide_on_us].

Members get the PDF mini textbook and PowerPoint presentation.

  • Refute an argument and [hide_on_uk]summarize[/hide_on_uk][hide_on_us]summarise[/hide_on_us] your ideas in a short paragraph.
  • Talk about the human urge to collect things from psychological and other perspectives and compare your ideas with those in a text on this topic.
  • Discuss things people collect and compare how effectively these things might be [hide_on_uk]monetized[/hide_on_uk][hide_on_us]monetised[/hide_on_us].
  • Give helpful advice to someone who is concerned about an obsession they have.

Notes:

For this ESL teens course, use either the PDF mini-textbooks (print out copies for each student), or if you have a projector or large screen you can use PowerPoint lessons slides. In both cases, follow the lesson through as it appears in the materials.

The lesson is self-explanatory and doesn’t require any planning – just read through the lesson first to familiarize yourself with the lesson.
