Level: Upper-intermediate (B2 – C1).

In this lesson students read a review of an educational app and give opinions on the review. They also explore different types of written text and ways the choice of text type impacts on language use.

Members get the PDF mini textbook and PowerPoint presentation.

  • Use written text to explore how many words are derived from others.
  • Discuss the conclusions reached in a review and compare the ways grammar and vocabulary are used in this and in an advertisement.
  • Compare a range of text types and notice how genre has an effect on language use.

Notes:

For this ESL teens course, use either the PDF mini-textbooks (print out copies for each student), or if you have a projector or large screen you can use PowerPoint lessons slides. In both cases, follow the lesson through as it appears in the materials.
