Notes:

For this level 4 course, use either the PDF mini-textbooks – print out copies for each student, or if you have a projector or large screen you can use PowerPoint lessons. In both cases, follow the lesson through as it appears in the materials. The lesson is self-explanatory, and there are additional teaching notes below.

Lesson procedure:

Lesson objectives

Say hello and greet everyone

Say hello to Peter the puffin

Talk and write about you

Say the names of classroom objects

1. Say hello and greet everyone

In this section students introduce themselves by name and practice simple greeting with their classmates. Have everyone stand up and mingle as they introduce themselves.

2. Say hello to Peter the puffin

Students read a text about a puffin. Have them practice reading to each other. Next, see how much of the text your students can recall without reading it.

3. Talk and write about you

In this section, students build up to writing a text about themselves.

3a: Students listen to you read a text and they fill in the missing blanks. Then check by writing the answers on the board.

3b: Have students read the text to each other in pairs. Then have the same pairs answer the comprehension questions.

3c: Have students in pairs ask each other the questions. Then have everyone work on their own to write the text about themselves. Finally, select students to stand up and read their text to the class.

4. Say and write the names of classroom objects

In the final section, students learn some important classroom objects.

4a: Chorus the vocabulary with your students. Give everyone 2 minutes to study the words – then have a class quiz.

4b: Have students work in pairs to ask each other what the things are and how to spell them.

4c: Next, have students close their books and ask each other the same questions about objects in their classroom.

4d: Finally, have everyone listen to the teacher reading the text to answer the question. Then have everyone tell you where their phone is. You can follow up asking where other objects are (e.g. pencil case, pen, etc.)
