Lesson procedure:

Lesson objectives

Talk about national flags and nationalities

Say the names of places in a town

Say what there is in your town

Write about your hometown

1. Review rooms of a house

Students label rooms and ask each other questions to identify the rooms.

2. Flags and countries

Students learn different county names and their flags.

1a: See if you can elicit any countries based on the flags. Then have students match the flags to the country names and say the adjectives. Pay particular attention to the pronunciation of the countries / adjectives.

1b: Using the model, students write a text describing each flag. Then have students read out their sentences. End the page with the discussion questions, first in pairs, then as a class.

3. Saying places in a town

2a: Chorus the places shown on the town map. Have students practice saying these places by asking each other the questions. End by eliciting other places in a town.

2b: Chorus the places and have students match to the pictures. Students then discuss if their town has those places.

2c: Elicit the places in the photos and write the words on the board. Then read through the sentences with prepositions in (B). Have students practice by writing sentences including the prepositions and vocabulary from today’s lesson.

4. Speaking and writing about your hometown

2d: Run through the vocabulary by chorusing each item. Read though the model conversation. Then have pairs practice the conversations using the model and the vocabulary.

2e: Give your students 5 minutes to write about their hometown. As they are writing circulate and make sure everyone is using the structures “These is …”, “There are …” and prepositions.

When finished, have students read their texts to the class.
